Well, we have 5 trips for you to choose from in the countryside around Granada and our base in historic Alhama de Granada. Each cycling day ride is designed
for different levels (from experienced roadies to beginners) and we have options for self-guided or guided. These rides could be just what your holiday needs after spending time in too many museums or lying on the beach at the Costa del Sol and needing the urge to burn off some of that sangria and paella. |

Cycling around Alhama de Granada is simply magnificent. Of course we would say this as after all we choose to live and be based here. This is where we ride most of the time and it offers the cyclist everything from white villages, lakes, sea viewing points, category hill climbs (and descents), smooth tarmac and quiet roads. And the town of Alhama itself offers a glimpse of rural Spain at its best with lively tapas bars, thermal springs and a stunning gorge.
Ride 1 is made for the road cyclist (experienced or leisure) and Ride 2 is a countryside extravaganza following trails through the ´campo´.
There is other fantastic riding in the area if you would like to stay for a night or 2 in a rural retreat and make a longer cycling holiday in
Andalucía .
Ride 1 – Moderate or Challenging – Hybrid or Road Bike – Self Guided or Guided – 55km or 85km. Take a circular loop ride from Alhama, passing small white villages and spinning through natural parks where mountain goats scramble, viewing almond and olive groves. Take time to enjoy a lunch at a traditional inn before cycling around an aqua blue lake. Time: 6 hours. Price 25 Eur pp, 40 Eur extra for guide. 10 Eur extra if prefer road bike (hybrid hire included).
Ride 2 – Moderate – Hybrid Bike – Self Guided or Guided – 55km. Get out into the countryside, following quiet country trails used mainly by farmers and shepherds. This route is off road, but not technically difficult (wide landrover style trails that are hard packed). Venture through hamlets and small villages, finishing the day following a trail to the hot springs of Alhama. Time: 6 hours. Price 25 Eur pp, 40 Eur extra for guide.

We can provide a return transfer from your hotel or residence. So come with us and experience a day or 2 of country villages and dramatic landscape as you cycle along valleys and over rolling hills, finishing at a beautiful lake for a cold beer or juice. Take time to visit the famous thermal baths of Alhama for a rewarding soak or a walk in the gorge. As we are based in this town, you can be sure of a friendly welcome!

Escape Granada city life and cycle out on some more tranquil roads and into the countryside that offers some staggering views of the Sierra Nevada and its most fertile surroundings. We offer 3 possible routes for different experience and activity levels. All rides begin and end at a central Granada meet point.
Ride 1 - Easy - Hybrid bike – Guided – 30km. Taking in the pretty area that follows the venerable River Genil as it flows from the Sierra Nevada and feeds the rest of Andalucía. Enjoy this flat and gentle cycle with cafe stops and shady spots for rest. Traffic free on the path, it is perfect for beginners and those who just want to get out and explore a little of this pretty area out of the city. Time: 4 hours. Price 25 Eur pp, 40 Eur extra for guide
Ride 2 – Moderate – Hybrid or Road Bike – Guided – 60km. With great views of the Sierra Nevada and Parapanadas get out into the Genil Valley and explore some of the small rural villages. A historic region, visit Santa Fe where Columbus received his commission to explore the “new world” and cycle around this agricultural area with its varied crops of tobacco, almonds, olives and pomegranates. A mainly rolling route with spectacular views of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Time: 6 hours. Price 25 Eur pp, 40 Eur extra for guide. 10 Eur extra if prefer road bike (hybrid hire included).
Ride 3 – Challenging – Road Bike – Guided – 85km: 800m of climbing, some lovely views are to be had from this route, taking in the hilly terrain from Granada. Wind your way up out of Granada and onto a silky smooth road that climbs up to a 1300 metre pass (Granada being already at 700 metres) through stunning scenery into the Sierra Nevada mountains. Past lakes and pine trees and small villages. A real treat for roadies (road bike included in price). Time: 6 hours. Price 45 Eur pp.

These trips are self-guided (maps and route notes provided) or can be led and fully supported by one of our local tour guides. A guide offers insights and knowledge about the area, is bi-lingual, looks after any bike maintenance and safety issues, and organises the perfect day out for you (and prevents you getting lost!). It is also possible to organise more days of cycling around this area from fixed base accommodation (just ask). |
