Our NEW Andalucia self guided bike tour lets you ride across the famous landscape of Southern Spain. From your start in Carmona (just outside busier Seville) you can ride all the way to Granada!
Looking for our well known guided and fully supported tour that was once called Moorish Andalucia? It is now our Enchanted Andalucia tour as it has been redesigned and upgraded (but not the hills!).
Castanets, Caliphates, Carmen and Castles, that is what this colourful vivacious land shouts. To explore this area in which the Romans trod, the Moorish society developed, and Spain takes particular pride in, is too much fun to pass up.
Think of everything you know about Spain. You will find it here. The pacing inky silhouettes of bulls, the white washed rustic farmhouses in rolling grain fields, the romantic curls of the Moorish palaces of Sevilla and Granada, Cordoba´s fantasy of arches, winding alleyways to lose yourself in, the song tracks of Carmen, The Barber of Sevilla and Don Giovanni, not to mention the romantic strains of the Spanish guitar and the evocative song of Flamenco singers.
Just combine that with some great cycling. The scenery, the natural parks, the olive groves, the snow capped mountains in front of blue skies. It all makes for perfect Cycling Country.

Make your own way to arrive in the ancient city of Carmona (35km away) where the town walls attest to its illustrative history. Visit the charming centre, the imposing Alcazar and lookout points and curiously, a complete Roman burial ground with excellent museum. With views out to the green countryside and the shuttered white washed homes with blossoming balcony geraniums it is a nice introduction to inland Andalusia. (Options for night in Seville prior the tour.)Day 2. Palma del Rio
We meet in a lovely plaza here in Carmona to enjoy the twitter of sparrows and introduce your stead to you. Glide off into the Roman Campaña, a fertile area which fed the empire. Spend the evening in an atmospheric monastery hotel in Palma del Rio, where the timbers could share tales of Christopher Columbus´ stay and those who came before.
Orange blossom was made into an evocative perfume by the Moors, you will be reminded of this as you cycle here the air is so fragrant. The heartland of the Seville Orange the route will take you into the rolling hills near Cordoba and into this mesmerizing city that once had more street lights than Paris. An illustrious collection of artists, philosophers, architects, poets, Cordoba still has this draw and you will fall in love with its medieval centre near which you stay. (Options for extra night.)
A large expanse of sky is on today´s agenda and your route takes you through this pretty countryside, with only wild birds as companions. Olives galore....what else is Spain so well known for but the best oil in the world? You will see why, when you see how many trees there are. Baena is an elegant town, rich due to olive oil and with its Alcazar and Moorish walls surrounding the homes at the top of town, sunset here gives some lovely silhouettes. Across from the hotel is a verdant park with its shaded benches nestled amongst the palms.
The silvery tree will be your companion as you near Zuheros, the most romantic village which sparkles in the sun above on the mountain. Here its Renaissance Castle is perched high and the panorama afforded from the main plaza is awesome. Stay in the romantic white washed village and dream of moving in. (Why not extend your stay here and cycle the Via verde, a delightful rail to trails intiative which takes you through this pleasant countryside without the strain of climbing any hills - a perfect cycling rest day).
Cycle around the pretty Subbética National Park and enjoy the morning bird song and the 14th century Moorish watchtowers which still stand sentinel. Arrive in the curley-qued Baroque town of Priego, with its many beautiful doorways and Alcazar castle. Take a cafe on one of the many plazas in this place of countless fountains before carrying on to the lakeside town of Iznajar and your charming hacienda hotel. *Option to stop in Priego for the night and carry on to Iznajar the next day.
50km / 30m
Continuing on up (!) though the olives and hill climbs to arrive in the Poniente Granadino, the last kingdom of the Moors, and where you can get glimpses of the Sierra Nevada on each hilltop. Moderate to Challenging Level - distances are kept lower (daily average of 60km) to be in the moderate range but terrain can be challenging. Expect longer hills and hot days in the summer. This is suitable for more experienced cyclists as the route can be quite isloated in parts as you traverse this beautiful landscape. Some will find this route Challenging if heat / climbs are issues. A real fantastic accomplishment for those who enjoy a historic but large landscape.
Good surfaced roads on quiet country roads (busier as you near Cordoba and Granada). Suitable for touring-hybrid bikes and road bikes, though there is some rough surface. The countryside is very rolling.
1 guide will meet and greet in Carmona and provide daily luggage transfers (or not if preferring to carry own). We are based in Alhama de Granada, and so we are never far away from offering advice and assistance. Feel free to drop in when you get there.
Private transfers from Sevilla to Carmona can be arranged (including bike transport if required) for 60 Euros (up to 4 people). Please enquire for return prices or other destinations.

“Even a soul submerged in sleep is hard at work and helps make something of the world.” Heraclitus, Fragments”
This is a great cycle across this rolling landscape of legend and so you will need your sleep in order to awake revitalized, refreshed and ready to ride! Fortunately the hotels will cater to this and provide you with a haven for this nightly renaissance. On this tour you stay in a monastery from the medieval time when candlelight was the sole disturbance to slumber to a brightly lit attractive city hotel with twilight grandiose views of Moorish Cordoba. Variety is the spice of life and this tour certainly will give you that. Have a bite of inland Spain with a peek at village night life, which in the summer can be only when everyone awakens and our hotel in Alhama is run by a flamenco star, so sleep is only for the wicked! Siesta, snooze or sleep lazily in the sun, enjoy this chance at slumber in Al-Andalus
