If you want a week of thrilling self-guided road cycling in Spain, then this tour is the one for you. Riding this route by bike is challenging but all efforts will be rewarded tenfold by the exciting and ever shifting landscape you breath in. Frontiers of the Moorish rule, the towns have not forgotten their heritage and with the spectacular views and hearty food, you won’t either. Taking in the 3 provinces of Granada, Cordoba and Malaga, this tour brings into play roads taken by the pros in the Vuelta a España and Andalucia. Climbing passes used since the dawn of time, the natural geographic diversity is overwhelming and the glide back to the Mediterranean via a true mountain descent is an unforgettable delight.

Day 1. Alhama De Granada

30km or 72km/ 19miles or 44miles
(450metres elevation gain - long route)
Cycling in Andalucia in April Arrive in the historic town of Alhama for a welcome meeting and bike set up. This is where we are based permanently all year around so you can be assured of a friendly greeting! Enjoy an afternoon warm up ride around small villages into the National Park to get used to riding the smooth, good grade tarmac.

Day 2. Montefrio

85km/53miles (1240m elevation gain)
Cycling in Andalucia in April After a fine breakfast, start the day ascending from a valley bottom to see views of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada. Pass by a shimmering lake before stopping for your (first) coffee of the day at the local cyclists´ favourite cafe. Spin through asparagus fields before climbing to the picturesque sighted village of Montefrio, its castle and church hanging spectacularly from the rock-side.

Day 3. Priego De Cordoba

74km or 112km/46miles or 70miles
(1815m elevation gain - long route)
Cycling in Andalucia in April Enter the land of olive groves and ancient Moorish watchtowers from the hilltops. Cycle past white washed farm buildings and sun-drenched landscapes before finishing the day near the classic baroque town of Priego where churches, fountains and hidden alleys await. Try the world famous olive oil of the area or the local aniseed drink as you relax by the swimming pool of your beautiful 4 star hotel. Option: extend your stay here to take a rest day or explore the area by yourself (Priego is a fascinating town, or venture into the nearby Subbetica National Park).

Day 4. Iznajar

80km/50miles (1620m elevation gain)
Cycling in Andalucia Another exceptional day of road cycling awaits as you ride through the tranquil rural countryside. Ups and downs are abundant as you pass through farming villages and tranquil hamlets with sunny squares. Spend the night at Iznajar, a white village with an impressive castle set high above a lake with 360 views overlooking the finest Andalucian olive groves - a real delight.

Day 5. Alhama

66km or 85km/41miles or 53miles
(1310m elevation gain - long route)
Cycling in Andalucia in April Time to charge over the Sierras to a market town for a spot of well earned lunch. Explore the historic town before climbing out of the valley bottom to Alhama de Granada, soothing muscles in its thermal baths. Take an early evening afternoon walk along the deep cut gorge. Option:Take a rest day in Alhama to explore the town or prepare for a classic day of road cycling in Spain with an incredible loop ride takes you to the tops of 2 mountain passes to view the Sea down below. Pass through an area with its own micro-climate allowing pomegranates, lemons and oranges to grow. Pass through a gap in the coastal ranges before descending back down to Alhama - exceptional road biking (90 km).

Day 6. Almuñecar

77km/48miles (795m elevation gain)
Cycling in Andalucia in April Start the day cycling this undulating area with spectacular viewpoints of the distant Sierra Nevada mountains and the lovely Bermejales lake. In an unforgettable snaking descent in mountain goat area, through the Sierra de Almijara National Park's jagged peaks you tear through these monsters in an exhilarating drop to the Mediterranean Sea. End seaside, in a former Roman town on the Costa Tropical to relax with a well earned beer.

Day 7. Almuñecar

Time for a quick sunbathe or beachfront stroll before saying goodbye to this impressive Cycling Country. (Easy onward connections via coaches to Malaga or Granada) Option: why not spend a few extra days on the coast? - options to extend your stay.

      There is a local bus to/from Granada to Alhama 3 times daily as well as from Alhama to TorredelMar (on the Malaga coast) once a day. Bikes can be place in the underneath storage.

A fine arrangement of hotels on this tour will delight you at the end of each day´s ride. The first starting in lovely Alhama and the rustic hospitality met here. Move on to her sister town of Montefrio and stay in the former mill nestled in a cleft with its pretty stone patio and views of the countryside. On to 2 haciendas (one a 4 star) where you can lie and take in the rural tranquillity to your heart´s content before moving on back into the Poniente Granadino´s Alhama. Almost like coming home you will be welcomed as such, before wishing all adios and moving on to the Mediterranean oasis of Almuñecar. Here enjoy the lapping of waves and beach side stop of your hotel for the evening.
