Road Cycling in the Costa del Sol & Tropical is like living the dream! Cycle from the seaside towns of  Málaga or Torre Del Mar and their pleasant beaches, biking alongside the warm ocean shoreline of the famed Mediterranean of Southern Spain. Climbers will love this tour with its many metas and hills to ascend. Cycle inland into rustic Andalusía, home of olive groves, rolling hills and pretty old white washed farmhouses, set in the high coastal sierras. Ride some of the climbs La Vuelta often uses as you test yourself and your fitness level. This route is perfect all year round for warm weather training and riding.

Road Cyclists will stay in 2-3 fixed bases (the tour can be customised to suit with more or less days), and enjoy quality 4 star hotels and nearby attractions or amenities. Of course the ocean is always there for you to swim and great boardwalks for those of you who enjoy running (fantastic for triathlon training).

The region biked is between Málaga/ Torre Del Mar in the west and Almuñecar to the east. You will ride between the 2-3 resorts. It is a mixture of rolling coastal hills of agricultural bounty, pine forests, mountain passes of the Sierra and Natural Parks and vistas of the sparkling Mediterranean. A perfect training ground for cyclist who love good climbs and the coastal life!

Please note that this tour can be adjusted to make the riding easier. We can provide shorter loops with less climbing if required – please ask.

Itinerary
1. Arrive in Málaga, Spain

Road Cycling in Spain's Mediterranean Costa del SolArrive in the very Southern Spanish city of Málaga on the Costa del Sol to start your bike tour (pick up from Málaga airport can be arranged). It is a beautiful city right on the coast of Southern Spain. Stay there for a night and enjoy it’s laid back ambience. Málaga has an elegant historical centre with the Centre Pompidou, the Picasso Museum, an impressive Cathedral, Moorish Alcazar and a Roman amphitheatre! Take your dinner in this bustling centre and then afterwards, walk the beautiful tree lined port side for a refreshing evening paseo. The attractive Andalusian style this city has is really not to be missed.

2. Màlaga to Torre del Mar

upto 100 km / 62 miles (1400m elevation gain)

There are different ride options available.

Road Cycling in the Costa del Sol

Torre del Mar is a laid back beach town and a great place to be based for a few nights. Have a short warm up getting used to the roads and layout of the area. Head into the quieter roads behind Torre before coming back along the coastal road with views of the Mediterranean as you pedal along. Perhaps try the wonderful local climb, Puerto de León. It offers great views back to Málaga as you climb through the fir tree mountain forest. Easier option available too!

Reviews

“Maggie and Geoff (and to all of Andalusia )

Thank you for helping to make this is great week for us. As it was our last day we “leaned in” and went for the full loop from Almunecar ( 134km and 2400m of climbing). It was a challenging ride for each of us. So much so that supper consisted (in our hotel room) of fish and chips from the shop on the beach promenade and the best bottle of wine that we could find at the liege grocery store by the hotel. We had to go next door to buy a corkscrew!

We really enjoyed the week and Andalusia. The routes were very good, and the bikes worked out very well for us.

Thanks again.”
J. & J. Gordon – March 2019

As you probably gathered from Julie’s daily updates (haha) we had a great time on the Med Tour! Everything was very well organised, hotels were good, Geoff was great with setting us up and the bikes were great (we are all tempted to buy trek bikes now!). The routes were all great and pretty tough. We loved the more gradual climbs in particular!!”
M. Van der Pol and 2 friends, – April 2018

All arrangements worked well: bike, accommodation, directions-all perfect thanks to Maggi and Geoff and their enthusiastic road crews.
All I had to do was drink in the wonderful scenery and exert myself in a strenuous and very relaxing 8 day holiday. Highlights included the white villages all over hinterland of Torre del mar and velez malaga and the broad cultivated areas of the plains around Alhama. Great road climbs up the Puerta de Zaffaraya and the Sierra Nevada(saw a few professional road cyclists up there!). To top it off there was the enigmatic historical traces of the Moors from Velez malaga, the Alhama hot springs, Loja and the Alhambra in Granada.”
